We have returned from a week's holiday at Mews Cottage in Alnwick and had an absolutely super break there. The cottage is first class: very tastefully furnished and decorated to a very high standard.

There were five people in our party, including two children aged 12 and 9, and we were pleasantly surprised by the provision of not just one, but two, televisions, plenty of DVDs to watch in case of inclement weather(!), a variety of books to browse - both novels and books of local interest - and board games to play.

The kitchen was well-equipped, with several sets of crockery and lots of cooking utensils, so there was no danger of running short! The kitchen had everything needed for a comfortable stay, with the exception of a dishwasher - due to lack of space. However, that did not spoil our holiday, as the cottage was definitely a home-from-home and is quite possibly the best that we have stayed in for a very long time.

The living area was very comfortable, and each of the three bedrooms uniquely furnished to a very high standard, too. The bathroom was light and airy, and the entire property was immaculately clean.

The location of Mews Cottage is ideal - within easy walking distance of Alnwick Castle and The Alnwick Garden, and also within walking distance of the town centre and Morrision's supermarket. There are also fabulous sandy beaches just a short drive away.

We were very warmly greeted on our arrival by the owner, who immediately made us feel very welcome. His attention to detail, and all the little 'finishing touches', ensured that we had an absolutely enjoyable stay.

This is a property that we would definitely choose to stay in on our future trips to Northumberland

Thank you for providing a first class holiday cottage, all the extra touches made it more like a home – we couldn’t find fault with anything and love Alnwick and all it has to offer too

Dear Larry and Lynne,

We called your cottage “home”. It was a pleasure to be out all day and we had a beautiful place to return to. There was so much to do each day and we may need to return again. Thank you again

We have thoroughly enjoyed our second visit to Mews Cottage; this must be the best equipped holiday cottage and the best in the country! It is also very comfortable and extremely convenient for the local amenities. Hope to see you again in the near too distant future.

Can’t say much more than I did last time, can’t fault anything, – a lovely cottage, home from home. Our time wasn’t long enough and still haven’t seen all we want to in 10 days. Everything we have seen was great.

Thanks again

Best wishes Dot & Bill

Thank you for providing a beautiful house for us to enjoy & relax in. Everything was perfect, from the weather to the neighbours. Alnwick Gardens, Castle & town with Alnmouth beach were the highlights. The location of the house was ideal as it meant very little car time for us and our girls We fell in love with parts of the world whilst camping & this holiday has cemented that feeling. We’ll definitely be back next year. Cragside & Newcastle are on the “to do“ list

Many thanks

Thank you for a lovely cottage holiday, definitely the best we’ve ever stayed in. As you know we came recommended and can not fault anything.

The position is great so near to everything. It’s just a lovely part of the country, the only problem was, one week is not enough.

Thanks Larry & Lynne again for a lovely holiday and the kind welcome we received when we arrived.

Best wishes to you both

Surprisingly against forecasts the weather was excellent. The cottage is delightful and in a wonderful position. A great base for exploring the coast and National Park. Alnwick Castle and Gardens are stunning and so is Cragside. Further afield Lindisfarne is well worth the journey, especially along the coastal route.

Try Turnbulls ready meals, great value!

We had a fantastic week in your beautiful cottage. Weather was ideal for seeing the sights. Visited beautiful castles, homes and gardens and at the end of our days found plenty of places to have great food, superb steaks at Louis, sizzling salmon at the Art house and so on. As a lover of scones, Northumberland excelled itself – capital of the scones!

Thank you so much for a perfect week will recommend to all friends and will be back

Probably the best holiday cottage we have stayed in. A wonderfully warm welcome. So glad we followed advice and visited Cragside – we still have so much to see there on our next visit.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here; such friendly people and great food. We have been so lucky with the weather. We will definitely be back.

Thank you Louise, Ian and Robert

We have had a lovely time in Mews Cottage – despite the weather! A fantastic location, would love to come back. It has been great to have days out without using the car – a full day at Alnwick Gardens and a full day at Alnwick Castle.

Our boys aged 6 and 3 loved both, especially the water features and tractors – take “wet play” clothing and towels.

Cragside a full day out too – loads to do and picture bingo for the kids in the house. Great rock pooling at Low Newton and a nice pint at the Ship Inn, behind the beach. For very wet days, can recommend a trip to Newcastle and excellent museums, the Great North Museum – Hancock full of fossils, dinosaur bones, how Iron Age man lived etc. The discovery Museum which is very hands on with loads to do for the kids.

Strawberry Lounge has fantastic scones and the Italian restaurant Tireno was great food and service; all at a good price – and child friendly

A beautiful house, very friendly and helpful owners.

Thank you

This is our 4th year at Mews Cottage and it is still as fab as ever! The strawberry Lounge in town is a must, fab scones, great value and great service. Cragside is still our favourite visit; something for everyone.

The beaches! Well how do you pick a winner out of all the beaches there are, all fantastic, but I think Craster wins the rock pool visit!

Thank you so much Larry and Lynne

Thank you for fitting us in at very short notice – it was well worth it – accommodation excellent and the warm welcome (our muffins) very much appreciated. We will definitely recommend “The Mews” to friends and family. We enjoyed catching up with long lost friends and travelling down memory lanes

We’ve had a fantastic time staying in your beautiful cottage. What a find from the internet! We had not been to Alnwick for 20 years and found it to be a magical place, even better than we remember. This time we brought the whole family and son’s girlfriend.

Alnwick is certainly a great base to have when sightseeing. Rothbury is a must see and we had the most beautiful raspberries from the grocer. You must spend a day in Edinburgh and of course the castles – Bamburgh, Warlworth and Alnwick Warkworth has a great shop called Gray’s – bags, jewellery and scarves – so cheap!! Alnwick’s best kept secret is the Strawberry Lounge – the food is yummy and wholesome.

Thank you, Lynne and Larry for everything, right down to the lovely chocolates and apple pie for us on arrival.
